Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal lands in a soup, allegedly manhandles BDO

The AIUDF and Asomiya Yuva Mancha on Thursday have demanded the arrest of Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal for allegedly manhandling an officer in Dhekiajuli.  Both AIUDF and Yuba Mancha have sought immediate action against the BJP legislator for attacking Dhekiajuli Block Development Officer (BDO) Wahidur Rahman.

Commenting on the allegations, MLA Ashok Singhal at a press conference on September 8, said that the statement made by Wahidur Rahman is baseless and part of a conspiracy against him. “The allegation made by the BDO is totally false and it is a conspiracy against me as I am fighting for eradication of corruption,” the BJP MLA said.

The local MLA claimed that Rahman came to his office on September 6 at around 9 am when more than 80 people were present on the office campus. “He stayed only for three minutes,” said Singhal.

“The constituency which I represent is a backward constituency and I am fighting against fear, hunger and corruption,” the MLA added.  The MLA further said that he requested the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur to enquire about the anomalies that took place in Dhekiajuli block in the last five years. He claimed that IYA houses were allotted in the name of dead persons and persons not residing in the area. Moreover, he alleged that the IAY houses beneficiaries were not getting the fund allotted for them but on paper the fund had been disbursed completely.

BDO of Dhekiajuli LAC, Wahidur Rahman lodged an FIR at Dhekiajuli police station on September 6 mentioning that he had allegedly been beaten by the local MLA Ashok Singhal.

Demanding strict action, the AIUDF and Asomiya Yuva Mancha on Thursday urged Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to order police to immediately take action against the MLA.

“Such behavior by a people’s representative is not acceptable. We have condemned the incident and demand immediate action against the legislator,” AIUDF legislature party leader Hafij Bashir Quashimi said in a statement.

Asomiya Yuva Mancha secretary general Jitul Deka in a statement has appealed chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to control the legislator. “The chief minister should show his sincerity by immediately ordering police to arrest MLA Singhal,” Deka said.
