“Over the years, we have come across many such announcements from Delhi and Dispur. Is it a herculean task?”

Student’s body Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on September 4 said that there’s no need to be jubilant about Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s promise to seal the porous India-Bangladesh border soon.

In a statement issued on Sunday, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar said that the promises that the CM had made are nothing new. “The assurance of sealing the international border has been made multiple times with no work on the ground,” the AJYCP president noted.

“Over the years, we have come across many such announcements from Delhi and Dispur. Is it a herculean task?” he asked.

The AJYCP leader blamed it all on both Delhi and Dispur for making it an unending process. “A sealed India-Bangladesh border will not help them strike advantage of influx which both Congress and BJP want,” Talukdar alleged.

According to him, “Is the Assam government to be blamed for allowing the things to move at a snail’s pace? Why the centre has not been active to complete the task? Both state and the centre are to be blamed for lack of political will”.

Taking a dig at the NDA government at the Centre, Talukdar said, “If the NDA government at the Centre is so keen to seal it, why it failed to make notable progress during the Vajpayee regime”.

Ending his two-day India-Bangladesh border visit on Saturday, Sonowal promised to complete the task at a stipulated period of time which he said would help control the border crimes.
